Tips for Coloring Animal Coloring Pages
1. Layering Fur Texture From Base to Tip
Kids usually just grab one brown or grey crayon and smash it down hard across an entire animal. You end up with a flat blob that completely hides all the fine pencil lines.
Start with the lightest shade and gently shade the whole body first. Then layer darker strokes over it following the direction of the fur growth.
2. Mixing Natural Tones for Realistic Water
Water backgrounds around aquatic animals need depth to look believable. A single swipe of light blue marker just feels lifeless and bleeds through cheap paper.
Teach your kids to build a gradient by using turquoise near the shallow areas and deep navy by the bottom. It instantly makes the subject pop off the page.
