1. Mixing Up the Skin Tones
It is really easy to just grab the peach crayon and call it a day. But human skin is so much more complicated than that. I tell my kids to look closely at the back of their own hands. See the blues and reds in there?
You can lightly layer a bit of pink or even a tiny touch of yellow under the main skin color. It gives the characters a little more life on the page. Plus it subtly teaches kids about color mixing early on.
2. Making the Hair Look Real
These boys have some seriously stylized hair. If you just color it flat it ends up looking like a hard plastic helmet. We really don’t want that. Hair moves.
