Tips for Coloring Keroppi
1. Go Green but Not Boring
Everyone just reaches for the standard green crayon for Sanrio’s favorite frog. That gets dull fast.
I tell my kids to mix lime green and hunter green. Use the dark one for shadows under his chin. Then use the bright lime for his face. It adds dimension so he doesn’t look flat.
2. The White of the Eyes
Keroppi has massive eyes. Leaving them completely blank white paper is fine.
But sometimes it looks unfinished. I like to take a very pale blue pencil and just lightly shade the top curve. It makes the eyes look glassy. Any of these Keroppi coloring pages will pop if you try this trick.
3. Bowtie Contrast
That little bowtie is his signature look. It needs to stand out from his green skin.
We usually go with neon pink or bright red. Or rather, just red. Neon pink tends to smear on cheap printer paper. A sharp red marker works best here.

Puddles and ponds dominate these scenes. Don’t just color them solid blue.

7. Dealing with the Rain
A couple of these pages have falling rain. It is tricky to color without making a mess.
We trace over the raindrop outlines with a fine-tip blue marker first. Then lightly shade inside. Sometimes we just leave them white and color the background dark. It makes the rain look heavy.
8. Don’t Stress the Lines
Coloring should be relaxing. Not an exam.
If they color outside his giant eyes or mess up the tiny fish. Who cares. The point is just sitting together for around 18-20 minutes of quiet. Let them make Keroppi purple if they want.
