This one is just oddly comforting to look at. A plump pineapple is sitting right on the wooden seat of a classic porch rocking chair. There is a little potted plant and a window in the background that gives it a cozy indoor vibe.

Then you can go back over it with a golden yellow or even a light orange near the edges. It gives the fruit so much more shape than just using a single crayon.

2. The Spiky Crown Greens

Those leaves on top are tricky because they overlap so much. Don’t just color them all the same dark green. Use a lighter lime green for the leaves right in the front.

Then take a darker forest green and fill in the leaves hiding in the back. This simple trick makes the crown look 3D instead of like a flat green sticker. You end up with a much better coloring page of a pineapple when you do this.

3. Shading the Diamond Pattern

The skin has that natural criss cross diamond pattern going on. A good way to make it pop is to add a tiny bit of brown right in the corners of each diamond. It takes a little extra patience but it looks amazing.

The rocking chair and the wooden dock both need a good wood grain look. Take a dark brown colored pencil and draw a few wavy lines running down the planks before you color the whole thing. It doesn’t have to be perfect.

Then lightly color over those lines with a tan or light brown crayon. The dark lines will show through and look exactly like real wooden boards.

6. Don’t Ignore the Background

It is super tempting to just color the main fruit and leave the rest of the paper white. But filling in the kitchen walls or the sky makes a huge difference. Even a really light wash of blue crayon for the air changes the whole mood.

7. Choosing the Right Paper

I can’t stress this enough. If your kids use heavy markers you need good paper. Standard printer paper will just turn into a wet tearable mess in around 3 or 4 minutes.

We print everything on 220 GSM paper now and it handles heavy ink like a champ. It costs a tiny bit more but it saves so many tears when a masterpiece doesn’t rip in half.

8. Adding White Gel Pen Highlights

This is my absolute favorite trick for making a finished page look professional. Grab a cheap white gel pen from the craft store. After you finish coloring add a few little white dots to the very center of the pineapple diamonds.

It makes the fruit look juicy and shiny. It is a tiny detail that completely elevates the final picture from a standard kid craft to something you actually want on the fridge.

Tips for Coloring Bananas

1. Mix Your Yellows

Bananas are never just one flat color of yellow. Unless they are plastic. Start with a really light buttery yellow for the base layer.

Then take a brighter golden yellow and go over the edges. It makes the fruit pop right off the page. This works perfectly on these banana coloring pages for kids.

2. Don’t Forget the Green

We all buy bananas when they are a little underripe. It is basically a survival tactic in my house. Put a little bit of lime green right at the top stem.

Maybe blend a tiny bit of green at the very bottom tip too. It looks way more realistic. Little details like that teach kids to look closely at their food.

3. The Brown Spots Add Character

A perfectly clean yellow banana is kind of boring to look at. Real life is messy. Grab a light brown colored pencil and lightly tap some speckles onto the skin.

My kids love adding the freckles as they call them. You can even draw a big brown bruise if you want to. Coloring pages with bananas are great for practicing texture.

4. Shading the Peeled Fruit

The inside of the banana is not yellow. It is more of an off-white or a very pale cream color. If you leave it stark white it looks unfinished.

5. Making the Leaves Look Alive

Those big jungle leaves need depth. Using just one green crayon makes them look entirely flat. Dig through your kids messy bin and grab maybe 3 or 4 different greens.

Use the darkest green right near the veins. Put the lightest green on the outer edges where the sun hits. Blend them together in the middle. All this blending comes down to one thing: layer your colors.

6. Adding a Background

Some of these pictures have lots of white space around the fruit. Don’t leave it blank. A solid block of sky blue behind the yellow fruit creates incredible contrast.

Or you could draw your own kitchen counter underneath it. The whole point is to make the space your own. Get creative with what belongs in the scene.

7. The Wax Crayon Trick

If you want the banana to look really smooth try this. Color the yellow part firmly with a wax crayon. Press down pretty hard.

Then take a tissue and just rub it gently in a circle. The wax kind of melts and buffs into a shiny layer. It honestly makes the paper feel like a real banana skin.

8. Outlining for Emphasis

After everything is colored sometimes the edges get lost. The pencil lines blend into the marker ink. Take a sharp black colored pencil and trace the main outline.

Just the very outside edge of the banana. It acts like a frame and brings the subject right to the front. We do this trick all the time in the LittleColorables studio.

5. The Glossy Shine

The thing that makes a cherry look appetizing is that bright white reflection of light. A lot of our pages have that little highlight drawn in already.

The rule here is simple. Leave it completely blank. Do not even put white crayon on it if you can avoid it. Just let the raw paper show through to create that intense glossy shine.

6. Choosing Backgrounds

When you have a massive bright red object in the center of your page the background color matters a lot. If you use orange or purple it can all mush together into a warm blur.

Cool colors are your best friend here. A soft icy blue or a pale mint green behind the cherry will create incredible contrast. It forces the eye right back to the main subject.

7. Picking Your Medium

Kids always reach for the markers because the color payoff is instant and satisfying. But markers can be brutal on the tiny details in some of these designs.

I usually set out alcohol markers for the big wide spaces like the cherry body itself. But I make sure to leave sharpened colored pencils on the table for the tiny blossoms and the texturing on the wood grain.

8. Coloring the Wooden Elements

I use a light tan base and then just scribble loose wavy lines with a dark brown pencil. You do not want the lines to be straight. The messier and more organic your strokes are the more it looks like real wood.

This is definitely one of the weirder setups our team dreamed up. Who puts a piece of fruit on an old typewriter? I guess it makes for an interesting mango coloring sheet if you like finding quirky things.

The keys are honestly going to take some patience to fill in. My tween daughter actually likes the meticulous details here. She uses fine-liner markers for the letters and a big fat crayon for the fruit itself.

Sliced Mango Half on a Decorative Plate

We drew this one sliced right down the middle with the pit removed. It rests on this gorgeous little square tile that reminds me of our kitchen backsplash. Finding a good coloring page of a mango that shows the inside is surprisingly tough.

The tropical leaves around the edges frame the whole scene perfectly. Sam usually scribbles right outside the lines on those leaves. Honestly it still looks cute hanging on the fridge anyway.

I absolutely love the woven texture on this market basket. It gives kids a great chance to practice their cross-hatching skills. My middle child usually skips the basket entirely and just colors the fruit neon green like a Mario Kart shell.

There are leafy greens and produce boxes sitting in the background. It is a very rustic little scene. I always suggest printing these on 80 lb cardstock so the markers do not bleed through the heavy lines.

This one feels very fancy and scientific for some reason. The fruit is just sitting under a clear glass dome on a marble surface. It is like a museum exhibit.

Drawing the glass reflections was a fun challenge for the team. Kids can leave streaks of white to make it look truly transparent. Or they can just color the whole dome blue and call it a day.

Mango Resting in a Cast Iron Skillet

I am not entirely sure why anyone would fry a whole unpeeled fruit. But here it is sitting in a deep cast iron skillet on the stove. It makes me laugh every time I see it.

1. Layering Your Yellows and Oranges

Mangos are almost never just one solid color. I always tell my kids to start with a bright yellow base covering the whole thing.

Then take a warm orange and gently blend it around the edges or near the top. You can even add a tiny hint of red if you want it to look super ripe. It makes the fruit pop right off the page.

2. Don’t Forget the Green Bits

Tips for Coloring Strawberry Pages

1. Layer Your Reds

Red crayons can be tricky. If you just press down hard with one standard red, the whole thing looks lifeless. I always tell the kids to start light. Then you come back in with a darker crimson or even a magenta around the edges.

This design just spins right off the page with those four wedges pointing to the middle. We surrounded them with little flowers and floating leaves to make it feel almost like a mandala. I’d say the complexity here is about a 3 out of 5.

Five Summer Popsicles

Nothing screams July louder than watermelon on a stick under a giant sun. There are five neat little popsicles lined up against a sky full of puffy clouds. My middle child insisted we needed a coloring page of a watermelon treat like this.

This one is just pure silly fun with a striped paper straw poking right out of the fruit. The sun is shining bright in the corner over some simple garden bushes. It makes me thirsty just looking at it.

What even is the liquid inside there? Who knows but it looks refreshing. The stripes on the straw give a nice detail to break up all the red.

Tips for Coloring Watermelon Pages

1. Layering Your Greens

The rind of a watermelon is never just one flat color. I always tell my kids to start with a light yellow-green base before doing anything else. Then they can take a darker forest green and draw those squiggly tiger stripes down the side.

2. Finding the Right Red

6. The Sky is Not Just Blue

Summer skies have a specific hazy warmth to them. Don’t just grab the primary blue and color the whole background flat. I tell my kids to fade the blue into a very pale yellow near the horizon.

It creates a sort of heat wave effect that feels like August. You can leave the fluffy clouds totally blank or give them a soft grey underbelly. The sky sets the whole mood.

7. Creating Juicy Shine

Real watermelon reflects light because it is mostly water. You can fake this by taking a white colored pencil and pressing hard over the red areas you already colored. It blends the pigment and leaves a milky shine.

You can also just take an eraser and gently rub away a streak of color. My oldest son loves doing this to make his art look 3D. It is a messy technique but totally worth it.

8. Marker vs Crayon Debate

Honestly I let my kids use whatever they can find on the floor. But markers are tricky for large areas of fruit because they streak so easily. Crayons give a much softer and more natural food texture.

If they insist on markers have them use tiny circular motions instead of long lines. It hides the overlap marks pretty well. Just put an extra piece of paper underneath so it doesn’t bleed through to the table.

This one is honestly a bit surreal. It is a smooth apple trapped inside a massive water droplet with little ripples at the bottom.

It makes you think of fresh rain. My six-year-old daughter, who acts as an official product tester for our designs, colored the whole drop bright pink once and it looked like some kind of alien fruit tank.

Spilled Grocery Bag

I hate when this actually happens in the kitchen. Here we have a paper bag tipped over with a bunch of apples rolling right out onto the table.

The fence and the big oak tree in the background give it that local farmer market feel. You can really play with the shadows under the rolling apples here.

Summer Apple Ice Pop

Who even makes an apple popsicle? Well we did, and it looks incredibly refreshing with those three apple slices frozen right into the middle.

Tips for Coloring Apple Pages

1. Don’t Forget the Bruises

Perfect red apples are boring. Real apples get banged up in the bag or the crate. Add a little patch of brown or dark yellow to the side of the fruit.

It makes the whole drawing look more grounded and real. My daughter always adds a tiny worm hole, which is honestly gross but very authentic. It just adds character.

2. Layering the Reds and Greens

Apples are almost never just one flat color. Even a Granny Smith has little hints of yellow or white near the top. If you are doing Apple coloring pages for kids, encourage them to lightly color the whole thing yellow first.

Then bring in the red on top. Press harder near the bottom where the shadows are. It creates this glowing effect that a single crayon just can’t do.

3. The White Spot Trick

Getting that baked golden look takes some patience. Do not just reach for the standard brown marker. It will look like mud.

Start with a light tan or even a pale orange as your base. Then lightly brush some medium brown just around the crimped edges where a pie naturally gets darker in the oven. It makes the final Apple coloring sheet look delicious.

6. Grounding the Scene

A lot of these objects are sitting on tables or grass. If you leave the ground white, the apples look like they are floating in outer space.

7. Wood Grain Textures

Getting my kids to actually eat real fruit is a daily negotiation that I almost always lose. But hand them a box of crayons and suddenly they are completely obsessed with citrus and berries.

These fruit coloring pages are basically the only reliable way I can get around 17-18 minutes of quiet coffee time before the morning rush completely wrecks me.

My youngest literally spent an hour trying to make a strawberry look “juicy” yesterday. It is honestly fascinating how much they focus on these fruit coloring sheets when the iPad is finally dead.

I highly recommend using decent paper if your kids press down hard with their markers. A standard 80 GSM paper works fine for a quick scribble, but heavier cardstock makes a coloring page feel like actual art.

This one has a really nice contrast between the smooth glass and the small cherry stems. My six-year-old daughter tested this one and immediately decided all the cherries needed to be neon pink. I think the leaves framing the background add just enough complexity without being annoying.

Getting the curved lines of the glass to look right when coloring is a fun challenge. You can leave parts of the glass white to make it look like a reflection. Or just color the whole thing purple, whatever works.

Grapes Spilling from a Ceramic Pitcher

I always loved those old still life paintings that have fruit casually hanging off of rustic pottery. We designed this plain ceramic pitcher to give kids a big, open space for solid coloring. The grapes themselves take a lot of patience to fill in one by one.

It might cause some inconvenience if you use a really thick marker for the little stems. A fine-tip pen works better for the detailed parts at the top. The big pitcher is practically begging for a heavy wash of watercolor if you have heavy enough paper.

Grapes and an Apple on the Sill

This scene feels like sitting in a quiet kitchen on a Sunday morning. The single apple next to the bunch of grapes gives a really satisfying mix of shapes to work with. There is a window in the background that you can easily turn into a sunny day or a dark night sky.

I usually tell my kids to color the wood grain on the table first before doing the fruit. It grounds the whole picture. Honestly the little leaves on the vine are my favorite part to shade.

Carved Watermelon Basket

We used to make these exact zigzag watermelon baskets for backyard barbecues when I was younger. The geometric carving pattern along the edge is super satisfying to fill in with alternating colors. There is a slice sitting right next to it that just screams summer.

Guava isn’t the most common fruit in kids’ coloring books, but the fanned-out slices look fantastic on paper. The wood grain on the cutting board gives you a chance to practice blending different shades of brown. Surrounding foliage keeps the tropical theme front and center.

The inside of a guava can be pink or white, so you have options. I don’t know the exact botanical rules for guava leaves, but I usually just go with a dark, waxy green. It just feels right.

Grapefruit Half with a Honey Dipper

This layout is probably the most visually balanced one in the whole collection. The segmented grapefruit sitting next to the little wooden honey dipper just works. The puddle of honey underneath is a great spot to practice making things look sticky and translucent.

My daughter insists that grapefruits must be colored orange, even though I keep telling her about ruby reds. The little floral background elements are delicate enough that they don’t distract from the main fruit. Just don’t press too hard on the honey dipper grooves.

Lemon and Rosemary on Marble

I absolutely love the marble slab texture we put underneath this lemon. The sharp, needle-like rosemary sprig contrasts so nicely with the round, bumpy skin of the citrus. It feels a little more grown-up than a standard cartoon fruit page.

Trying to color marble can be tricky, but light grey streaks over a white background usually does the trick. The lemon itself is basically a giant blank canvas for trying out different yellow shading techniques. A really sharp pencil is mandatory for that rosemary, though.

Tips for Coloring Fruit Coloring Sheets

1. Mixing Up Your Citrus Shades

A lot of kids just grab one yellow crayon for a lemon and scrub the whole page until the paper tears. It works, but it looks incredibly flat. I always try to show them how to layer a tiny bit of pale green near the ends to make it look a little unripe.

When you use these free fruit coloring pages as a starting point, you can really push the boundaries of normal colors. Adding a tiny bit of orange near the center of a lemon gives it so much depth. It is a small trick but it changes everything. Try it out on the grapefruit page.

2. Faking the Peel Texture

Fruit isn’t perfectly smooth in real life. Oranges and grapefruits have those little dimples all over them. If you take a darker colored pencil and just tap it lightly around the edges, you get this great stippled effect.

I figured this out while testing a new fruit coloring sheet that felt too empty. The texture makes the drawing pop off the page. You don’t have to cover the whole thing. Just focus on the shadowed areas underneath.

3. Leaving White Space for Shine

Getting fruit to look wet or juicy is notoriously annoying. Or rather, it just takes a bit of planning. The easiest way to cheat it is to just not color a small sliver on the top curve of a grape or a cherry. That untouched white paper suddenly acts like a glaring light reflection.

A white gel pen can also save the day if you accidentally colored over the whole thing. I don’t know why, but applying that tiny white dot is the most satisfying part of the process. It instantly makes the fruit look 3D. Kids love this trick.

4. Grounding the Scene

A lot of our printable fruit coloring pages have the fruit sitting on a table or a cutting board. Don’t just ignore the background. Using two different shades of brown to trace the wood grain lines adds a massive amount of realism.

It grounds the floating fruit so it doesn’t look like it’s drifting in a white void. Sometimes I’ll use a very light grey to put a shadow directly underneath the object. All this rendering comes down to one thing: backgrounds matter.

5. Pushing the Contrast on Watermelons

The green rind and the red flesh of a watermelon are exact opposites on the color wheel. This means they naturally make each other look brighter when they sit side by side. I tell my kids to press really hard with the red crayon right near the edge.

If you leave a tiny sliver of white between the pinkish-red and the dark green, it looks exactly like the real thing. Finding good designs that allow for this kind of high-contrast work is rare. It makes the final picture look incredibly punchy. Try blending a little yellow into the green rind, too.

6. Don’t Settle for One Green

Foliage is honestly my favorite part to fill in. But if you color every single leaf the exact same shade of forest green, the picture gets muddy and boring. Mix it up.

Use a bright lime green for the smaller, newer leaves near the top of the stem. Then switch to a deep, dark olive for the larger leaves underneath. Any standard coloring page looks ten times better when the leaves have some actual variation. Dark greens recede while light greens pull forward.

7. Managing the Tiny Details

Tips for Coloring Badtz Maru

1. Getting the Black Feathers Right

He is mostly black. That is just a fact. But if your kid just scrubs a black crayon over the whole page it looks terrible. It completely ruins the line work our team spent hours drawing.

So what do you do? I tell my kids to use a really dark charcoal gray instead. Or they can lightly shade with black and then go over it with a dark blue. It keeps the edges visible and looks a lot more professional.

2. The Signature Yellow Beak

His beak and feet are the only natural pops of color on him. You really want those to stand out. Don’t use a pale yellow or it just gets lost.

Grab a bright mustard or a golden orange color. If we are using markers I always have Sam do the beak first. That way the black ink doesn’t accidentally smear into the yellow and turn it green. It happens like 98 percent of the time if you do it backwards.

3. Making the Eyes Expressive

Badtz-Maru is all about the attitude. Those half closed eyes are where his whole personality lives. You absolutely have to leave the white parts of the eyes clean.

Sometimes kids get carried away and color the whole face black by mistake. If that happens I just use a white gel pen to draw the eyes back in. It is a lifesaver trick I learned from testing so many of these pages. Just keep the eyes clear and he stays grumpy.

4. Don’t Be Afraid of White Space

Not every single inch of the page needs color. I used to think a finished coloring page meant no white paper showing. I was wrong.

Leaving some things white actually makes the main character look better. Like the clouds in the go-kart race or the highlights on the leather jacket. Just let the white space breathe a little. It gives the eye a place to rest.

5. Mixing Up the Backgrounds

Since he is a dark character the backgrounds need to work hard. If you put him against a dark brick wall he disappears. You need contrast.

I love seeing kids use pastel chalks or soft colored pencils for the backgrounds. A light mint green behind him in the arcade looks amazing. It is all about balance.

6. Using Neons for Urban Scenes

A lot of these pages are in cities or arcades or on stage. These are perfect places for neon colors. Grab those crazy bright pinks and greens.

7. The Art of the Spiky Hair

His hair is basically his crown. Those spikes need to look sharp. Thick dull crayons are just going to round them off.

This is where colored pencils really shine. Keep them sharp and color in the direction of the spikes. It gives the hair some actual texture instead of just being a flat black blob. It takes a little more time but it is worth it.

8. Embrace the Messy Look

Badtz-Maru isn’t a neat and tidy character. He is rebellious and a little rough around the edges. The coloring should kind of reflect that.
